MONTEOLIVETO ITALIA

Author: PEPI MERISIO | Notes: 30X20 cm. VINTAGE GELATIN SILVER PRINT ON BARYTA PAPER -PEPI MERISIO was born in Caravaggio, in the south of the Province of Bergamo, in 1931 and began to teach himself to take photographs in 1947. As time went on, he played a role in the amateur photographer’s scene of the nineteen-fifties and received a great deal of important recognition in Italy and abroad. In 1956, he began working with the Touring Club Italiano and with a series of magazines : Camera, Réalité, Photo Maxima, Pirelli, Look, Famiglia Cristiana, Stern, Paris-Match, DU and many others. In 1962, he became a professional and the following year joined the staff of “Epoca”, at that time, without doubt, the most influential italian magazine for photography. Since then he has published over a hundred books of photographs with different houses. In 1972, the radio and TV station, Rai, devoted to him one of the programmes in its series “The Eye as Profession”, introduced by Piero Berengo Gardin. In 1980, the magazine Progresso Fotografico brought out a number devoted to Merisio, in 1982 it was the turn of L’Editoriale Fabbri who included him in their series Great Photographers, while Foto Magazine had a number on him in 1996. In 2010 Regione Lombardia hosted his retrospective titled:“Ieri in Lombardia” at the Pirelli skyscraper in Milan. In 2011 his work exhibited in the Italian pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
